Slow Canoe Readings http://slowcanoereadings.wordpress.com/ was a super great night with stand out readings from the wonderful Paddy O’Reilly and Chris Womersley. Paddy read to a packed room her new short story written from the point of view of a 50’s something homeless man dealing with his long-suffering social worker as they watch a couple fish for yabbies further along Merri Creek. In her telling Paddy got the blokey idiom just right so you never doubted the gender of the protagonist – quite a feat! Chris, another skilled raconteur, also regaled us with a terrific short story. It was the skill of these two natural story tellers and their ability to engage and delight the audience that helped make Friday night a fun night indeed!
