In 2007, Full Circle was my first winning story and my first short fiction to be published. Around the Block: Our Darebin Community, the anthology in which it was published, along with short listed and an assortment of other stories, saw poor management attract something of a furor, the outcome being that this inaugural competition never made it to its a second year.
It was a shame in many ways – not least because the competition and future anthologies had enormous scope for highlighting the breadth of talent in the Darebin community – it was also terrible that my first win was somehow mired by controversy.
Today I found an article detailing the debacle in a back copy of Crikey. This was news to me as I hadn’t been aware it made it as far as Crikey:
