Ending the Fellowship

It’s with a heavy heart that I leave the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers’ Centre today. Thanks to a glitch with Tiger Air cancelling my flight yesterday, I scored an extra night here in my little bubble. It’s a bittersweet ending. All too soon, gone the luxury of immersion in my work-in-progress (and wow, have I worked!), my lovely little cabin and the wonderful folk @KSP, but also pangs at saying goodbye to my home-state and especially to my gorgeous uncle who again I spent time with on Saturday. I’m already planning my next visit. Uncle Don wants us to do a road trip!

Thank you to everyone who’s made me feel so welcome, especially Rashida and Mike, Mark Keenan, Andrew Levett, Shannon Coyle, Tabetha Beggs and Fern.

Here are more highlights of my time in Perth and at KSP:

Christmas in July literary dinner with readings by writer-in residence Lee Battersby. (some KSP board members turned on a three-course dinner for 29!)

Headpiece

My crazy headpiece at the Christmas in July dinner, here with writer Rita Tognini.

Rita on UDon's Hand

Uncle Don feeding minced meat to Rita, the willy wagtail he befriended when she was a baby, as he did her mother before her. Below are treasures from my Uncle:

The famous ashtray

Large Shell

A shell with Indigenous paintings. As a young man, my father bought this in Derby where he worked as postmaster and then gave it to my grandmother. It was her pride and joy. I found it in a very dusty glass cabinet which she bought specially to house my father’s precious gifts.

Finally, this: a boab nut from Derby with animal carvings, seen here from 3 angles:
